United States President Donald Trump is said to believe that a potential ground operation could be the most effective way to pressure Tehran into accepting Washington’s 15-point peace plan.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon is reportedly weighing the option of sending an additional 10,000 U.S. troops to strengthen its military presence in the region, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
On the Iranian side, a military source within the ruling establishment claimed that the country has already organised more than one million fighters for ground combat in anticipation of any possible confrontation.
Iran’s state-run Tasnim News Agency, quoting a military official, said there has also been a surge of volunteers among Iranian youths seeking to join the country’s military forces.
“In addition to organizing more than one million fighters for ground combat, in recent days there has been a massive influx of requests from Iranian youth directed towards the centers of Basij, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and the Army (Artesh) to also participate in this battle,” the source said.
The source added that speculation about a potential U.S. invasion of Iran has triggered strong patriotic reactions among citizens willing to defend their country.
“With the growing speculation about the possibility of a ‘historical folly’ by the U.S. in launching a ground invasion on the southern front of Iran, a wave of enthusiasm has emerged among Iranian ground fighters to create a ‘historical hell’ for the Americans on Iranian soil,” the source stated.
The official also warned about tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
“The U.S. wants to open the Strait of Hormuz with suicide and self-destructive tactics; that’s fine. We are ready for both their suicide strategy to be executed and for the Strait to remain closed,” the source added.
The development comes as President Trump reportedly delayed earlier plans to target Iranian power plants, opting instead to pursue negotiations aimed at reducing the escalating conflict.
Earlier, the U.S. leader had reportedly issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding that Tehran reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil passage.
However, the deadline was later postponed, with the new date now pushed to April 6, giving both sides more time to reach a possible diplomatic solution.
The rising tensions have drawn global attention, with analysts warning that any direct military confrontation between the United States and Iran could have major consequences for global security and energy markets.
