The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for the recent attack in Yobe State that killed at least 87 people. The attack occurred on Sunday in Mafa town, where residents and homes were targeted.
According to sources, the bodies of 37 victims were recovered and taken to Babbangida General Hospital for a mass burial. The burial, attended by Yobe State Deputy Governor, Hon Idi Barde Gubana, and other senior government officials, took place at the Babangida Emir’s Palace.
ISWAP, in a letter obtained by Daily Trust, admitted to the attack, claiming that the village was targeted for supposedly giving information to the military, leading to the deaths of their members.
The letter reads: “You have harmed our brothers in the past days in the town of (Bangaro) and its environs, and you cooperated and sympathized with the apostates in killing our brothers… We thought that by doing so we had warned you with the language of war, hoping that you would be deterred.”
