The former minister was on Wednesday received by President Muhammadu Buhari as the newest member of the APC.
However, Umahi while on Channels TV’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ live programme on Thursday, denied the claims by Fani-Kayode.
Governor Umahi attributed his joining the APC as a means to bridge the gap between the centre and his state.
Umahi added that he was not influenced by the former minister to join the APC.
The governor further called on Fi Fani-Kayode to withdraw his claims, saying he was sure that other governors may have decamped by their own intuitions.
“It’s an insult on my person, a whole Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum for him to say he made me move into the APC.
“Fani-Kayode must withdraw that statement. He remains my good friend, but he played no role in my movement. He came to visit me but that was after I have crossed over to the APC,” he averred.
