While underscoring why Gattuso got the job, FIGC President, Gabriele Gravina said:
“He lives and breathes the blue shirt. His drive, professionalism and experience are exactly what we need,”
Italy’s start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers was rocky, so Gattuso enters under extra pressure.
Group I matches against Estonia and Israel in September will determine the Azzurri’s campaign.
Pundits and fans alike will be observing every action.
As an athlete, Gattuso helped Italy win the 2006 World Cup and amassed 73 caps.He also turned out 468 times for AC Milan.
Transitioning to management in 2013, he lifted the Coppa Italia with Napoli in 2019–20.
However, he also endured short spells at Valencia and Marseille.

More recently, he revived Hajduk Split and steered them into the UEFA Conference League.
In order to assemble a formidable backroom staff, Gattuso has appointed former teammates Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli as assistants.
Youth development will be overseen by Cesare Prandelli.
Gattuso’s acceptance is all the more important because FIGC’s initial offer was turned down by both Stefano Pioli and Claudio Ranieri.
Gattuso needs to rekindle faith, create unity, and, most importantly, produce results because supporters are on edge and detractors are ready to strike.
He’s clearly excited; it’s time for him to show it on the pitch.
