  • Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has provided an update on Pope Francis’ condition in hospital.

  • The Pope, who has been diagnosed with pneumonia, was found to be “alert and responsive” during Meloni’s visit.

  • Meloni offered the Pope her best wishes for a speedy recovery on behalf of the Italian government and the entire country.

Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has provided a positive update on Pope Francis’ condition in hospital.

The Pope, who has been diagnosed with pneumonia, was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital last Friday with a respiratory infection affecting both lungs.

Speaking about the Pope, Meloni said she was “very happy to have found him alert and responsive.”

“We joked as always. He hasn’t lost his proverbial sense of humour,” she added.

The Vatican had earlier revealed that medical tests and a chest X-ray showed “a complex picture.” However, Meloni’s update provides a more optimistic outlook.

The Prime Minister also offered the Pope her best wishes for a speedy recovery on behalf of the Italian government and the entire country.

Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic church, has called for a universal ban on surrogacy.

Francis believed that the commercialization of childbirth is “despicable” and strips poor fertile women of their dignity.
