- Claims linked to his absence from key Senate event
- Sources insist health concerns forced overseas treatment
Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has refuted widespread reports suggesting he suffered a medical emergency and was airlifted abroad for treatment.
Reacting to the claims, Kenny Okolugbo, Consultant on Communications and Strategy to the Senate President, described the report as untrue.

“It’s a lie, fake news,” Okolugbo told Daily Post, offering no further explanation.
The denial followed reports by an online media platform alleging that Akpabio collapsed earlier this month and was flown to London aboard a private jet for urgent medical care.
According to unnamed National Assembly sources quoted by SaharaReporters, the Senate President reportedly collapsed on December 10 and was transported overseas using a private aircraft allegedly provided by billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote.
The report linked Akpabio’s alleged medical condition to his absence from the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) interactive session, a critical legislative engagement held on Wednesday.

His absence was notable, with Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi representing him at the session.
A source claimed Akpabio had already missed multiple official engagements and suggested this was the second time he had been taken to London for treatment, raising concerns about his health and ability to continue leading the Senate.
“Doctors are advising him to step down from the Senate to attend to his health,” a source alleged.
Akpabio was last seen in public on December 9, when the Senate approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to deploy Nigerian troops to the Republic of Benin.
As of the time of this report, the Senate President has not personally addressed the allegations beyond the statement issued by his aide.
