“We’re sending a signal to our promising Governor. This road was part of your campaign promises. There are faithful taxpayers using this road. Yet, they are suffering. The should come to the aid of the suffering people by rehabilitating this road.
“If the Governor does not heed to our call, the IYC will mobilize resource, maintain this road and the collect toll fee from the Delta State Government.”
Also speaking, IYC National Treasurer, Peremoboere Amatoru condemned the the perpetual habit of the Delta State Government to abandon an important project of that magnitude.
“I grew up knowing this road like this. Unfortunately, not much has changed even now that I am adult. Why the purposeful marginalization of Ijaws?
“You just celebrated one year in office without show of work in Ijaw areas. We have been marginalized under your Government.
“Our women and children are been raped continuously on this road. Kidnap cases are now a daily routine because of the nature of the road,” Amatoru lamented.
On his part, Igarama urged Governor Oborevwori “not to play politics with the development of Ijaw nation. This is the only road linking to 72 Ijaw communities under the IYC Western Zone.
“We appeal to the Delta State Government to show same level of commitment to the development of our communities like it has done elsewhere in the state.
“Because of the bad state of the road, herdsmen prey on our people on a daily basis without any form of restrain. We need nothing but action from the government.
“If nothing is done on this road in the coming days, the Ijaw Youth Council will mount road blocks on this road to protest against the forthcoming political rallies via this road,” the chairman added.
The Ohoro-Bomadi Road has long being an eyesore with major bad spots starting from Bedeseigha/Bolou Apelebiri community to Bomadi.
