IYC Calls For Urgent Rehabilitation of Bomadi-Ohoro Road From Oborevwori

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, has expressed commendation for Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, following his recent decision to award the contract for the construction of the Ohoro-Bomadi road.

The road, which serves as a crucial link between Ijaw communities in Patani, Bomadi, and Burutu Local Government Areas, had been previously described as a “death trap” by the IYC.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls that the youth body had on June 16, 2024, called on the Delta State Government for an urgent rehabilitation of the Ohoro-Bomadi road.

The road’s deplorable condition had not only endangered lives but also hampered economic activities in the region.

In a statement on Saturday signed by the trio of Nicholas Igarama – Chairman, Ebi Joshua Olowolayemo Esq. – Secretary and Tare Magbei – Information Officer, the IYC Western Zone praised Governor Oborevwori for his prompt response to their calls, highlighting the Governor’s commitment to addressing the needs of the people, particularly those in the riverine communities.

The Council urged the Governor to ensure that the contract is awarded to a reliable and competent construction firm capable of delivering a durable and high-quality road.

The statement reads;

“The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, expresses its profound appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for the recent awarding of the contract for the construction of the Ohoro-Bomadi road.

“This vital project, which has long been a significant concern for our communities, will immensely benefit the Ijaw people by improving connectivity and boosting economic activities in Patani, Bomadi, and Burutu Local Government Areas.

“The IYC Western Zone is particularly pleased with the Governor’s timely response to our the repeated calls for the rehabilitation of this crucial road.

“This prompt action reflects His Excellency’s commitment to addressing the needs of all Deltans, particularly those in the riverine and coastal communities.

“We urge Governor Oborevwori to ensure that the contract for this all-important project is assigned to a reliable and competent firm capable of delivering a durable and high-quality road.

“The Ijaw people look forward to the timely and efficient execution of this project, which is essential for the socio-economic development of our region,” the statement noted.

In addition to the Ohoro-Bomadi road project, the IYC Western Zone also called on the Delta State Government to prioritize the speedy completion of other critical infrastructure projects in the region, including the Ayakoromor Bridge and the Ogulagha-Odimodi roads.

These projects, according to the IYC, are vital for improving access to the Ijaw communities and promoting overall development in the Western Zone.

“Furthermore, the IYC Western Zone calls on the Delta State Government to prioritize the speedy completion of other critical projects, such as the Ayakoromor Bridge and the Ogulagha-Odimodi road.

“These infrastructure projects are vital to improving access to our communities and fostering development across the Western Zone.

“Once again, we commend Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his dedication to the development of Delta State and his continued support for the Ijaw people.

“We trust that these projects will be completed in record time, further strengthening the bond between the state government and our communities,” the IYC added.
