IYC Commends Gov. Okowa on Okerenkoko Water Project, Calls For Completion of Marine School Burutu, Ayakoromo Bridge Projects

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone has described as “great and spectacular,” to the construction and reticulation of a major water scheme in Okerenkoko Community from Warri South West Local Government Area.

Recall, Hon. Commissioner for Information Charles Aniagwu said: “As part of efforts to provide portable water and reduce communicable diseases, the state government had approved the construction and reticulation of a major water scheme in Okerenkoko in Warri South West Local government Area.”

In a e-statement sent to Daily Report Nigeria by Spokesman of the IYC Western Zone, Comrade Lugard Izoukumor, the IYC acknowledged water as a human right, and commended the Delta State Governor Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa for satisfying the Ijaw people Okerenkoko with such a basic human needs—to meet the Millennium Development Goals by the United Nations.

Comrade Izoukumor in his statement quoted, Article I.1 of the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights that was adopted in 2002.

He says, “The human right to water is indispensable for leading a life in human dignity. It is a prerequisite for the realization of other human rights.” “So, the IYC applauds Govenor Okowa in making a move to provide safe, clean, accessible and affordable drinking water and sanitation.”

“However, as Ijaw people we remind Governor Okowa, the significance of other projects in Ijaw Communities like the Ayakoromo bridge, and how befitting structures can be constructed in the permanent site of School of Marine, Burutu, which will boost economic activities, as well enhance academic development. We are worried over the state of these projects. These are projects that will benefit all Deltans.”
