- Jack Dorsey launches Bitchat, a Bluetooth-based messaging app that works entirely offline using encrypted, peer-to-peer communication.
- Messages are end-to-end encrypted, stored locally, and auto-deleted after a short time, ensuring strong privacy and data protection.
- Bitchat uses Bluetooth mesh networks, allowing messages to hop between nearby devices—even delivering them to offline users once they reconnect.
Twitter co-founder and Block CEO, Jack Dorsey, has introduced a new messaging platform called Bitchat, designed to function without an internet connection.
The app leverages Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networks to enable secure, peer-to-peer messaging between nearby devices. With a key focus on privacy and accessibility, Bitchat offers end-to-end encryption, ensuring messages are both secure and stored locally on users’ devices.

One of its standout features is the ability to operate completely offline, making it an ideal tool for communication in regions with weak or no internet access. Messages are automatically deleted after a short period, protecting user data and preserving anonymity.
Bitchat allows devices to form Bluetooth clusters, which pass messages from one device to another as users move around. This system extends the reach of communication far beyond standard Bluetooth range.
Additionally, the app ensures messages reach intended recipients even if they’re temporarily offline—delivering them once the user reconnects to the mesh.
Dorsey’s latest innovation marks a significant step in decentralised, private communication technology, particularly for communities that rely on secure offline tools.
