JAMB Disclaims Mandate On HND Admissions

JAMB Disclaims Mandate On HND Admissions | Daily Report Nigeria

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has denied claims that it is responsible for the inability of some Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

According to JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the Board’s mandate only covers undergraduate admissions and National Diploma courses, and it has no authority or control over HND admissions.

Benjamin cited Section 5(2) of JAMB’s establishing law, which explicitly states that the Board is not responsible for examinations or selection processes for postgraduate courses or other tertiary institution programmes.

“Some students were admitted to National Diploma programmes without our knowledge, and we only condoned and endorsed those admissions,” Benjamin said. “Their subsequent admission to HND is unknown and irrelevant to our mandate. As such, accusing us of issues we have no mandate over is preposterous.”

Benjamin also warned that some candidates have crossed the lines of criminality, which JAMB will soon address.

The clarification comes amid claims by some HND graduates that JAMB’s policies have hindered their ability to participate in the NYSC scheme.
