The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released official guidelines for the registration of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The announcement, shared via JAMB’s official X handle on Sunday, aims to help candidates prepare for a smooth registration process and avoid common pitfalls.

Candidates are advised to ensure their personal information—including National Identification Number (NIN), email address, and A-Level results—are accurate before generating a profile code. The 11-digit NIN should be sent to 55019 or 66019 (e.g., NIN 00000011111). Once a profile code is created, it cannot be altered, and biodata is automatically retrieved from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Prospective candidates are expected to visit the nearest JAMB office or an approved CBT centre to complete registration. E-PINs should only be purchased through authorised channels, including banks, online platforms, or official registration vendors. JAMB stressed that accurate details are crucial, warning that incorrect data could lead to registration complications.

Candidates are urged to make any corrections with NIMC well in advance, confirming that updates—such as name, date of birth, gender, and state of origin—reflect on the portal. GSM numbers and email addresses must be functional and unique. Biometric challenges should be reported to the nearest JAMB office, and no CBT centre is permitted to force registration. Dual screens are recommended to ensure correct capture of photographs and biometric data.

JAMB also highlighted frequent issues with profile code generation:

  • Error 550/66019: Caused by incorrectly formatted requests; candidates must use the correct command.
  • Number Already Registered: Indicates the phone number is linked to another profile; candidates should retrieve the SIM or use a new number.
  • Unable to Verify NIN: Candidates should retry after some time.

The 2026 UTME registration and sale of forms will run from Friday, January 31, 2026, to Saturday, March 8, 2026.
