FG insists on enforcing 16 years minimum admission age via CAPS
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The decision was taken on Tuesday during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, with education stakeholders in attendance.
In a post on its official X handle, JAMB announced that polytechnics and colleges of education will admit candidates with scores as low as 100, while colleges of nursing sciences require a minimum of 140.

This comes months after the board admitted to technical glitches in the conduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which led to the rescheduling of tests for affected candidates nationwide.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has reaffirmed that candidates seeking admission into any Nigerian tertiary institution must be at least 16 years old. The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, stressed that the age requirement is non-negotiable and will be enforced through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
