The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has placed a temporary restriction on the selection of examination towns for candidates registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Ekiti State.

The board said the decision followed the discovery of inconsistencies in the existing layout of examination towns in the state, which required immediate review and adjustment.

The measure, according to JAMB, is intended to ensure that candidates are eventually assigned to centres closer to their locations.

Speaking on the development, JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, explained that although candidates are typically allowed to choose examination towns near them, the registration process for the 2026 UTME began before the identified structural gaps were noticed in Ekiti’s examination town arrangement.

He noted that the irregularities made it necessary for the board to pause town selection in the state while corrective steps are taken in the interest of candidates.

As a result, candidates registering from Ekiti will be unable to select any examination town until the restructuring exercise is completed.

JAMB, however, assured that the process would be concluded within a short period.

Benjamin expressed regret over any inconvenience the temporary suspension might cause and reaffirmed the board’s commitment to continuously reviewing its operations to address emerging challenges.

He added that JAMB remains focused on improving its processes to guarantee fairness, efficiency, and a smooth examination experience for all candidates.
