JAMB Uncovers 3,000 Fake Graduates, Decries Illegal Admissions | Daily Report Nigeria

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has exposed a shocking 3,000 cases of fake graduates who never attended university, highlighting the pervasive corruption in the education system.

According to JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, these individuals never set foot in a classroom, yet claim to be graduates. Oloyede emphasized that illegal admissions by some institutions remain a source of embarrassment to the country.

“Some ‘graduates’ had never entered the four walls of a university owing to the endemic corruption in the system, but the board had documented over 3,000 of such cases,” Oloyede stated in a report published in JAMB’s bulletin.

“Illegal admission of candidates into tertiary institutions in the country is an embarrassment and a disservice to the nation.”

This revelation comes after the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education ordered JAMB in December 2023 to present a list of tertiary institutions conducting irregular and illegal admissions.

JAMB had earlier warned candidates against accepting admissions from such institutions without full academic participation.

All applications for admissions to first-degree programs must be processed through JAMB, the examination body reiterated in a statement titled “Cessation of illegal/irregular admission.”
