Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who once shone as an Arsenal youngster, has been handed a four-year prison sentence after setting up a scheme to bring in over £600,000 worth of cannabis.
Last September, police stopped two women—his girlfriend and her friend at London Stansted Airport with around 60 kilograms of cannabis.
The drugs had come from Bangkok, with a layover in Dubai.

Both women had been recruited by Emmanuel-Thomas, but they were cleared in court, claiming they thought they were carrying gold.
When Emmanuel-Thomas was picked up, he was still under contract with Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship.
The club wasted no time and immediately canceled his contract.
His lawyer said this was a “devastating lapse in judgment” caused by money problems.

Emmanuel-Thomas came up through Arsenal’s youth system and made five first-team appearances before leaving in 2011.
After that, he played for Ipswich Town, Bristol City, Queens Park Rangers, Aberdeen, and even had a stint with PTT Rayong in Thailand.
Judge Alexander Mills highlighted just how serious Emmanuel-Thomas’s decisions were:
“Through your own actions, you will no longer be remembered as a professional footballer. Instead, you will be known as a criminal—a professional athlete who chose to throw everything away.”
