The Jigawa State Police Command has intercepted suspects involved in a series of criminal activities including vehicle theft, cable vandalism, and attempted drug trafficking.

One of the major breakthroughs occurred in Taura Local Government Area, where a Kia Sorento with registration number GWL 225 BB was stolen from the crowded Gugungu Market. According to the police, the thieves exploited the busy environment to make off with the vehicle unnoticed.

Following the theft, officers from the Gujungu Division’s Surveillance Unit launched a targeted manhunt based on credible intelligence. The stolen SUV was eventually traced to Kanya Babba village in Babura LGA, near the border with Niger Republic.

“Through stop and search, diligent investigation, and effective use of community intelligence, the vehicle was successfully traced and intercepted at Kanya Babba village in Babura LGA while trying to enter Niger Republic,” said the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam.

The suspects, however, abandoned the car and fled upon sighting the police. While they remain at large, the police have assured that efforts to apprehend them are ongoing. The recovered vehicle has since been returned to its rightful owner following proper verification.

In a separate operation, officers of the Ringim Division arrested 25-year-old Abubakar Sadi from Kofar Waika, Kano State, for alleged cable vandalism.

The arrest followed a tip-off received in the early hours of July 15. Police intercepted a suspicious pickup van along the Ringim-Gidan Lige Road. Upon inspection, officers discovered a large quantity of vandalized electrical cable wires hidden inside the vehicle.

“Upon search, the team discovered a large quantity of suspected vandalized electrical cable wires concealed inside the vehicle,” SP Shiisu said.

While Sadi was apprehended at the scene, four of his suspected accomplices fled into nearby bushes. Preliminary investigation revealed that the cables were stolen from a government utility installation, disrupting power supply to parts of the area.

The police have taken custody of both the stolen cables and the vehicle used for the operation. SP Shiisu confirmed that Sadi would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
