Tragedy struck in Jigawa State on Tuesday when a 30 year old woman, identified as Adams Hannafi, took her own life by hanging herself from a tree in Sumore village, Dutse Local Government Area.

Residents told reporters that the heartbreaking incident happened around 3:00 pm when the housewife, who had four children, was discovered lifeless by passersby. They quickly alerted security agencies in the area.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said a team of officers from Yalwawa Division rushed to the scene after receiving the report. Upon arrival, they found the deceased hanging from a tree.
According to the police, the body was carefully lowered, examined, and later taken to Dutse General Hospital, where doctors on duty confirmed her death. No signs of foul play were found.
SP Shiisu further disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed Hannafi had been battling mental illness before the incident.

The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expressed sadness over the suicide and advised members of the public to show compassion and care to relatives or neighbours who display signs of mental distress. He emphasized the importance of seeking early medical and psychological support to help prevent similar tragedies.
The deceased has left behind her husband and four children.
