The National Coordinator of the Ijaw Monitoring Group (IMG), Comrade Joseph Evah, has conducted a medical outreach to deworm children aged 0 to 5 years in Gbaramatu Kingdom, located in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
This initiative was part of the lead-up to the 20th Anniversary of the Ijaw Female Students Association (NAIFS), scheduled to take place from November 29 to December 1, 2024, in Lagos.
Renowned Niger Delta leader and philanthropist Evah organized the outreach as a personal contribution to improving health in the Niger Delta region.

The initiative successfully dewormed thousands of children and provided educational supplies, including notebooks, pencils, pens, branded T-shirts, balloons, and other materials to schoolchildren.
Deworming efforts, such as these, play a vital role in combating soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections, which can lead to serious health issues such as malabsorption, vitamin deficiencies, anemia, and malnutrition, all of which affect the physical and mental development of children.

The outreach, supervised by the NAIFS Alumnae, toured several Gbaramatu communities, including Oporoza, Okerenkoko, Kunukunuam, Kurutie, Azuzuama, Ubefan, Inikorogha, Azama, Kokodiagbene, Benikrukru, and Jones Creek.
It was led by Barr. Kemeseifa Ebikefe Youkere, accompanied by NAIFS President Mrs. Stella Zuayei, Gbaramatu Female Students Association President Mrs. Glory Otutufugha, and other female students across Delta State.
Barr. Youkere emphasized the importance of deworming children and adults to prevent health issues such as ulcers, malnutrition, and intestinal diseases caused by parasites.
Hon. Godwin Febaide, Oporoza community chairman, praised Comrade Evah for prioritizing the Gbaramatu Kingdom, highlighting the need for deworming in riverine communities.
Other speakers echoed similar sentiments, encouraging parents to take advantage of the opportunity to improve their children’s health. Mrs. Glory Otutufugha expressed gratitude for Evah’s efforts, noting the positive impact on the children of Gbaramatu.
Niger Delta activist and Ijaw Publishers’ Forum (IPF) President Comrade Ozobo commended Evah’s humanitarian work, emphasizing its contribution to the health and well-being of children in the region.
