A magistrate judge in Calabar, Cross River state, identified as Richard Bassey, allegedly collapsed today being Tuesday, January 5, at the gate of the Governor’s office on the second day of an ongoing protest against unpaid salaries.

Some magistrates had started the protest on Monday, January 4, over non-payment of salary arrears for two years.

Bassey, who joined his colleagues for the protest, collapsed amidst the peaceful demonstration.

He was immediately rushed by his colleagues to a nearby hospital after he was revived on the spot.

The magistrates, who were in their full regalia, carried placards while demanding for their salaries on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the grieved magistrates are still awaiting a response from the state government over their demonstration and demands.
