President Bola Tinubu has sympathised with Nigerians over the ugly aftermath of his decision on fuel subsidy.

Tinubu acknowledged that the recent removal of fuel subsidy has caused hardship for the general public.

He made the acknowledgment in his Democracy Day address as he expressed pity for the masses.

However, the President stressed the need for sacrifice for the greater good of the nation.

Tinubu emphasised that the temporary discomfort caused by the subsidy removal was necessary to prevent the country from collapsing.

He stated that the subsidy had become a burden on the government and that its removal was a crucial step towards economic stability.

He said:

“I feel your pain. This is one decision we must bear to save our country from going under and take our resources away from the stranglehold of a few unpatriotic elements.

“I admit that the decision will impose an extra burden on the masses of our people. Painfully, I have asked you, my compatriots, to sacrifice a little more for the survival of our country.”
