JUST IN: El-Rufai Takes Legal Action Against Kaduna Assembly Over Corruption Allegations

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a fundamental rights suit against the Kaduna State House of Assembly at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.

El-Rufai’s legal action comes in response to the Assembly’s report accusing his administration of embezzling ₦432 billion and leaving the state with significant debt liabilities.

The former governor’s lawyer, Abdulhakeem Mustapha, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, argues that the report’s findings are null and void since El-Rufai was not given a fair hearing regarding the allegations.

The suit also names the state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice as respondents.

Earlier in June, the Assembly’s ad hoc committee submitted its report, claiming that El-Rufai’s administration had mismanaged loans and finances, recommending investigation, prosecution, and the suspension of the Commissioner of Finance .

El-Rufai’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adekeye, dismissed the allegations as “scandalous” and affirmed the integrity of El-Rufai’s government.
