Following the sighting, Saudi authorities are expected to declare Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as the first day of Ramadan 1447.

Earlier, officials had announced that moon-sighting activities would take place in Hawtat Sudair and Tumair in Al-Majma’ah Governorate.

Abdulaziz Al-Muainaa of the Al Hareeq Observatory had stated that weather conditions were favourable.

“The sun will set at exactly 5.52pm, and the weather conditions are suitable for sighting the Ramadan crescent,” he said.

Confirming the development, Haramain announced: “Crescent moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Ramadhān 1447 will begin tonight.”

The platform also offered prayers for Muslims worldwide, asking for acceptance of fasting and acts of worship during the holy month.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is regarded as the holiest period for Muslims.

It commemorates the revelation of the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), particularly during Laylat al-Qadr, observed in the last ten nights of the month.
