A magistrate court in Kano has found a local tailor, Mubarak Yusuf, guilty of environmental pollution caused by excessive noise from his sewing machine and generator, which had become a disturbance to residents in the area.
The case was filed by the Kano State Ministry of Environment following multiple complaints from locals who said the noise, especially during nighttime, disrupted their rest and peace.
In a statement issued by the ministry, it was revealed that although Yusuf denied the allegations, an on-the-spot assessment by the court confirmed the noise level was indeed excessive.

After reviewing the evidence, the court ruled that Yusuf must limit his operations to between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. daily.
Reacting to the judgment, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Dahir Hashim, praised the court’s decision and affirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening enforcement against environmental violations across the state.
