  • A magistrate court in Kano found tailor Mubarak Yusuf guilty of environmental pollution due to excessive noise from his sewing machine and generator.
  • The court’s decision followed complaints from residents and an on-the-spot noise assessment that confirmed the disturbance.
  • Yusuf has been ordered to restrict his operations to between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. daily, as the state environment ministry vows stricter enforcement.

A magistrate court in Kano has found a local tailor, Mubarak Yusuf, guilty of environmental pollution caused by excessive noise from his sewing machine and generator, which had become a disturbance to residents in the area.

The case was filed by the Kano State Ministry of Environment following multiple complaints from locals who said the noise, especially during nighttime, disrupted their rest and peace.

In a statement issued by the ministry, it was revealed that although Yusuf denied the allegations, an on-the-spot assessment by the court confirmed the noise level was indeed excessive.
