Terrorism trial outcome: Justice Omotosho to deliver full sentencing after Thursday’s conviction.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on all seven terrorism-related counts filed against him by the federal government.
Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice James Omotosho held that the prosecution successfully proved each charge, including allegations of incitement, running an unlawful organisation, issuing threats against the Nigerian state, and illegally importing broadcast equipment used for Radio Biafra operations.

The seventh count, which concerns the unlawful importation of transmission devices, carries a five-year prison term.
The court reached the decision shortly after Kanu was ejected from the courtroom for interrupting proceedings and opposing the impending verdict—a conduct the judge described as “unruly” and disrespectful to the court.
Kanu has been in DSS custody since June 2021, after his controversial return from Kenya in what his legal team insists was an “extraordinary rendition”. Throughout the trial, he denied all allegations, insisting he committed no acts amounting to terrorism.
Justice Omotosho had fixed the ruling date after Kanu failed to open his defence within the six days allocated by the court. With Thursday’s ruling, the judge is expected to announce sentencing in the coming hours.
Kanu retains the legal right to challenge the conviction at the Court of Appeal.
