  • The defecting lawmakers are Hon. Balarabe Dabai, Hon. Iliyasu Abubakar, and Hon. Salisu Yusuf, representing different federal constituencies.

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, stormed the House of Representatives on Thursday, May 8, 2025, to witness the defection of three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers from his state to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers who defected are Hon. Balarabe Dabai (Bakori/Danja federal constituency), Hon. Iliyasu Abubakar (Batsari, Safana and Dan-Musa federal constituency), and Hon. Salisu Yusuf (Mashi/Dutse federal constituency).

After being ushered into the chamber at 11:10 am, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen read the letters from the lawmakers announcing their defections from the PDP to the APC.

Following the defection announcement, Governor Radda led the defecting lawmakers to handshakes with the speaker before taking his leave.

This recent defection is part of a larger trend, with the House witnessing a surge in defections from opposition parties, particularly the Labour Party (LP) and PDP, to the ruling APC. Notably, on Tuesday, six lawmakers from Delta State dumped the PDP to join the APC, while two LP lawmakers from Enugu State crossed over to the PDP.
