Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have rescued at least 50 kidnap victims and recovered 229 rustled animals across the state in July, the command announced on Friday.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed the achievements to newsmen in Katsina while highlighting the progress made by the police during the month.

Aliyu said the police also successfully foiled bandits’ attacks in several communities.

He revealed that the recovered animals included 161 cows and 68 sheep.

A total of 302 suspects were arrested for various crimes during the period under review. Among them were 14 suspects for armed robbery, 22 for murder or culpable homicide, and 25 suspected rapists.

Others arrested included 20 suspected vandals, eight suspected fraudsters, and 26 individuals charged with illicit drug-related offences.

In addition, the police recovered three suspected stolen motor vehicles, two motorcycles, a quantity of illicit drugs, dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, and a large quantity of vandalised armoured cables.

On behalf of the Command’s Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, DSP Aliyu expressed gratitude to the public for their support and collaboration in crime-fighting efforts and maintaining peace in the state.

He appealed for continued cooperation, saying,

“We urge the public to continue reporting suspicious activities and crimes to the nearest police station or use our emergency numbers: 0815697777722, 0902220969033 and 07072722539.”

Nine People Abducted as Armed Hoodlums Attack Passenger Bus in Kogi

Nine passengers were kidnapped following an armed attack on a Peace Mass Transit bus along the Itobe–Anyagba Expressway in Kogi State.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared details of the incident on X on Friday, stating that the attack occurred around 4:20 p.m. near Ogbabo Junction.
