About seven members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who were earlier kidnapped by gunmen have been freed in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Recall that the corps members were reportedly kidnapped on their way back to the state after orientation camp in Ondo State about a week ago.

The Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed their release to newsmen.

She said:
Yes, they’ve been released. They were released in Rumuji on Sunday.”

Iringe-Koko refused to confirm when asked whether or not any ransom was paid.

Also, a parent to one of the corps members (name withheld) said they paid ransom to get their children released. She didn’t disclose the amount.

Meanwhile, the police in Rivers State said they were alert to curb the recent increased crime rate in the state.
