Nigerian singer Korede Bello recently expressed concerns about the decline in music quality among young artists in the country. During an appearance on Hip TV’s show Trending, hosted by reality star KimOprah, the 28-year-old artist shared his views on how youth and inexperience are impacting the music scene.
Bello suggested that younger artists often lack the life experiences needed to create truly meaningful and high-quality music. He argued that the earlier an artist achieves fame, the more likely it is that the quality of their music will suffer.
He explained, “When young artists start to gain popularity, the quality of their music tends to drop because they haven’t yet had the kinds of experiences that shape deeper, more impactful songs. They’re still figuring out how to live, so their music often reflects a desire for a lavish lifestyle, rather than the rich, lived experiences that older artists bring to their work.”

Korede Bello went on to highlight how artists like African China, Timaya, and Fela Kuti drew from their personal experiences to create music that resonates with reality. “We shouldn’t blame these young artists,” he added. “They can only create from what they know.”
