Shettima was accompanied on the visit by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum; Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar; Senator Ali Ndume; and the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC), Jennifer Adighije.
Other members of the delegation included former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, and Senator Emmanuel Udende.
On arrival at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, the Vice-President was received by Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, members of the State Executive Council, and other top government officials.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State in response to the attack on Woro community.
The battalion is expected to spearhead Operation Savannah Shield, a military initiative aimed at flushing out terrorist elements and protecting vulnerable communities across the state.
President Tinubu condemned the attack, describing it as cowardly and barbaric, and assured Nigerians that the perpetrators would be tracked down and brought to justice.
The president also expressed outrage that the attackers targeted residents who resisted attempts at indoctrination, choosing instead to practise a peaceful and non-violent form of Islam.
The federal government reiterated its commitment to restoring security in the affected areas and preventing further attacks on innocent civilians in Kwara and neighbouring states.
