Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has presented a ₦644 billion 2026 budget to the State House of Assembly, with a strong emphasis on capital projects, security, job creation, and improved welfare for workers across the state.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday laid the 2026 Appropriation Bill before the Kwara State House of Assembly, proposing a total expenditure of ₦644,004,816,893 for the coming fiscal year.

According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, about 65.98 per cent of the budget is earmarked for capital expenditure, while 34.02 per cent is set aside for recurrent spending, including social protection and workers’ welfare.
The Governor said the spending plan would focus on completing ongoing projects while initiating new ones aligned with the state’s long-term development goals.
“With gratitude to God, I stand before this Honourable House to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill in line with the Constitution,” AbdulRazaq said.
He explained that the budget, tagged “Budget of Consolidation and Sustained Growth,” is based on national economic projections, including an oil price benchmark of $64.85, daily oil production of 1.84 million barrels, an exchange rate of ₦1,400 per dollar, and a GDP growth rate of 4.68 per cent.

The Governor said security would remain a top priority, with funds allocated for security equipment, vehicles, and technology to tackle kidnapping and criminal activities.
He also announced improved welfare packages, including an adjustment to medical officers’ salaries and the introduction of a Teachers Salary Allowance (TSA) from 2026.
“We are committed to the well-being of every segment of our state,” he said. “This budget will expand our economic base, support job creation, and deepen social protection for the poor.”
AbdulRazaq highlighted key achievements of his administration, including the completion of 38 roads, construction of 264 kilometres of roads across the three senatorial districts, and major infrastructure projects such as the Innovation Hub, Kwara Hotel, International Conference Centre, and Senator Oluremi Tinubu Hospital.
Speaking earlier, the Speaker of the House, Salihu Yakubu-Danladi, praised the Governor for transparency, fiscal discipline, and respect for the separation of powers.
“Your administration has strengthened public confidence through accountability and visible development projects,” the Speaker said.
He assured that lawmakers would give the budget proposal speedy consideration in line with the state’s priorities.
