The Labour Party Directorate on Mobilization and Integration has dismissed rumors circulating on social media that the party plans to replace Peter Obi as its presidential candidate in the 2027 election.

 

The directorate clarified that there is no truth to the claim that they have reconciled with the Apapa-led faction and agreed to field a different candidate.

The directorate stated that Peter Obi remains the party’s presidential candidate and that they are fully committed to his candidacy. They urged supporters to disregard the false information and continue to work towards ensuring Obi’s success in the upcoming election.

This denial comes after speculation arose on social media suggesting a potential rift within the party and a possible change in candidacy. The Labour Party has reaffirmed its commitment to Obi’s candidacy, putting the rumors to rest.

The rebuttal was contained in a statement signed by the Director General of the Directorate, Marcel Ngogbehei, the Deputy Director Media and Communications, Aju Elumelu and the Deputy Director, Strategic Engagement, Sheikh Rufai Al-Saddiq.

Ngogbehei acknowledged that there are efforts to reconcile aggrieved groups in the party, but no agreement had been reached ahead of the 2027 election with the groups.
