The Labour Party (LP) has denied allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that the All Progressives Congress (APC) paid opposition parties N50 million to instigate crisis.

Atiku had made the claim while speaking at a national conference on strengthening democracy held in Abuja on Monday.

Reacting to the allegation, the LP issued a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, describing Atiku’s claim as “wild, unguarded, and unfounded.”

The party demanded concrete evidence to substantiate the allegations, stating that it has never received any bribe from the APC or any other individual, group, or organization.

According to the statement, “We are shocked that a high-caliber politician who has contested elections all his life and is often regarded as a very experienced politician could make such a wild, unguarded, and unfounded statement.”

The LP further stated that its leadership has “never received a dime from any individual, group, organization, or government who are not members of the Labour Party.”

The party advised Atiku to be “circumspect and careful in generalizing certain allegations” and to “speak for himself and his party.”

The LP emphasized that the opposition is essential to a virile democracy, helping to put the government in power in proper checks while ensuring inclusivity in democratic participation.

The party concluded by calling on Atiku to provide concrete evidence to substantiate his allegations, stating that “without which Nigerians will be forced to take every other of his statements with a pinch of salt and are politically motivated.”
