On his self-titled fourth album, Fireboy has brought together an impressive lineup of artists, including Nigerian music legend Lagbaja, Grammy-nominated Afrobeat star Seun Kuti, Grammy winner Jon Batiste, and hitmaker Lojay.
Fireboy shared, “Getting Lagbaja on this record was really special for me. Given the times we’re in, it felt right to have a legend like him involved. One of the main themes of the album is nostalgia—there’s this deep, nostalgic feeling when you listen to it, so I knew I had to bring in some of the greats to help convey that message. From the start, I felt this record was something extraordinary, and I couldn’t wait for people to hear it.”
He added, “You wouldn’t believe this: Lagbaja was fully masked in the studio. It was surreal—I never got to see his face. I had this urge to ask if I could, but that’s part of his mystique. In Yoruba, ‘Lagbaja’ means ‘Mr. Nobody,’ someone anonymous, so it made sense that his identity remained hidden. What mattered most was that we made great music together. He’s such a unique artist, and I’m thrilled to have him on this album.”

Speaking about his collaboration with Seun Kuti, Fireboy mentioned that his album’s A&R and YBNL label boss, Olamide, suggested Kuti for the track. He described Kuti as an amazing and funny person, adding even more value to the project.
