The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway will be reconstructed using concrete pavement.

This announcement came during his inspection of ongoing emergency repairs on a seven-kilometer section of the road in Lagos State.

Umahi explained that the Ogun State segment of the expressway is currently managed by the state government.

He emphasized that the new concrete pavement will mitigate water damage, a common issue with asphalt roads, and assured that funding would soon be allocated to complete repairs on the remaining eleven-kilometer stretch.

Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, commended Umahi for his efforts to alleviate the difficulties faced by users of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

In a related matter, Umahi warned the contractor responsible for the Sagamu to Ibadan section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that failure to return to work and complete the remaining three kilometers could lead to the termination of their contract.

He noted that the contractor has been given a seven-day deadline, with a warning letter to follow if they do not comply.
