A weekend visit to Teslim Balogun Stadium revealed a hive of activity, with athletes going through rigorous routines under the guidance of coaches and officials. The stadium has become the center of Lagos’ preparations, showcasing the determination of athletes to perform at their best.

Mr. Kooz Taiwo, one of the officials, explained that Lagos State has addressed past challenges and is focusing on both the mental and technical development of athletes. “Everyone involved in Team Lagos wants to see improvement. Our goal is to ensure Lagos rises to the top,” he said, adding that coaching and staffing reviews are part of the strategic plan.

Boxing team coach Anthony Mbawego confirmed that his athletes have been in training long before the festival countdown began. “We are prepared and confident. Lagos always produces strong boxers, and we aim to bring home medals as usual,” he stated.

Volleyball Coach Ajawo Lateef expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, emphasizing that the inclusion of new members will strengthen the squad. “With proper support and structure, our volleyball teams are poised to excel at the National Sports Festival,” he added.

With full-scale training in progress across sports disciplines, Lagos State is demonstrating its commitment to reasserting its status as the nation’s sports hub, promising an exciting performance in Enugu 2026.
