The Federal Government, FG has announced that the first 47-kilometre section of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway will be opened to traffic between December 12 and 17, 2025.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this during an inspection tour of the highway on Sunday, emphasising the commitment of both the government and the contractor to complete this segment of the 750-kilometre route, which links nine coastal states.

“This project must be completed. On the President’s directive, we are ensuring public access from channel 0 to channel 47, up to channel 55. This is our target,” Umahi said.

He noted that while the December opening will allow public use, work will continue, with full commissioning of Section 1 and half of Section 2, excluding bridges, planned for April 2026.

Umahi also addressed a recent court ruling on claims by Stella Okengwu, CEO of Winhomes Global Services Limited, regarding the highway. He said the Federal High Court struck out her suit, confirming that Winhomes no longer holds any proprietary interest in the land.

“The court found that Mrs Okengwu and Winhomes lacked the legal standing to sue, as they had already divested their interest in the land,” Umahi explained.

He accused Okengwu of spreading false claims in the media to discourage foreign investment, describing her assertions as “mendacious and unfounded.”
