A 54-year-old man, Jegede Folorunsho, has been remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl in the Lagos State neighborhood of Mushin.
Folorunsho was on Monday charged with defilement of the minor before Magistrate O.M. Ajayi presiding over a Magistrate Court in the Ebute Metta area of the state.
According to the police prosecutor, Paul Ugorji, the defendant sexually assaulted the victim, noting that the crime violated Section 137 of the Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015 Criminal Law.

The charge reads, “That you, Jegede Folorunsho, on October 4, 2023, at No 4 Adegbite Lane, Mushin Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile one girl (name withheld), a minor of eight years, by having carnal knowledge of her and thereby, committed an offense punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

The defendant’s plea was not taken, while the court granted the police’s application and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned to December 15, 2023, for a report on the DPP advice.
