Lagos Police Arrest Suspected Internet Fraudster for Car Scam, N30m Theft | Daily Report Nigeria

The Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos has apprehended a suspected internet fraudster, Joshua Olawuyi, for allegedly obtaining a vehicle under false pretenses and stealing N30 million.

According to a statement by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Umma Ayuba, the arrest was made following a petition from a US-based licensed car dealer, Adesuwa Ogizie.

Olawuyi reportedly contacted Ogizie in 2016 to purchase a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 valued at N30 million, claiming his brother Jude Hanslem would make the payment on his behalf.

However, it was later discovered that the payment was made with fraudulent funds.

A team of detectives led by SP Abass Gadzama arrested Olawuyi, who confessed to the crime and revealed that he had sold the vehicle and converted the proceeds.

The police are continuing their investigation, and Olawuyi will face prosecution upon its completion, according to the Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Umma Ayuba.
