Job creation, driver training, and flexible ownership part of expansion plan
Lagride, the Lagos State–backed e-hailing service, has announced an aggressive expansion plan targeting 70% of Lagos’s e-hailing market, starting with the deployment of 100 new electric vehicles (EVs).
The company plans to roll out over 3,000 EVs within the next three years, supporting Lagos’s shift to cleaner, smarter urban mobility.

According to Lagride, the EVs boast a 333-kilometre range, enough for a round trip between Lagos and Ibadan without recharging, addressing the common “range anxiety” associated with electric cars.
Speaking during a media briefing, Lagride’s PR and Communications Lead, Ifeanyi Abraham, said:
“We are now moving decisively in the same direction as global hubs, with professional driver training, technology that serves the public, and vehicles that protect the environment.”
Abraham highlighted that the EVs were carefully selected to meet the demands of Lagos’s busy transport system, with robust charging infrastructure support and long-distance reliability.
The company also plans to revamp its mobile applications, allowing riders to choose between petrol and electric vehicles when booking rides.
Lagride’s Executive Director, Adeniyi Saliu, noted that the EV rollout aligns with Lagos State’s broader economic transformation agenda. He said the expansion would: Reduce wait times for commuters, lower vehicle emissions, increase fleet reliability during peak periods.
Saliu added that the initiative would create thousands of jobs in driver training, maintenance, and fleet operations.
He revealed that drivers would have access to flexible vehicle ownership pathways ranging from 18 months to four years to enhance earnings and livelihoods.

“Our plan, objectively, is to take at least 70% of this market because of the scale of our investments in assets, infrastructure, and people,” Saliu said.
The expansion builds on last year’s joint venture between Lagos State Government and CIG Motors Company Limited, which acquired 5,000 new vehicles for Lagride, including 1,000 electric vehicles.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the initiative as part of efforts to modernise public transport and reduce Lagos’s fossil fuel footprint, providing a sustainable alternative to outdated vehicles.
