Reaffirms loyalty to PDP, pledges to unite Nigerians against APC
Former Governor of Jigawa State, Dr Sule Lamido, has declared that his personal friendship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not stop him from working against him in the 2027 presidential election.
Dr Lamido, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), told the BBC that while his relationship with President Tinubu dates back decades, political differences remain intact.

“A few days ago, I met him in Kaduna. We know each other very well, but my priority is to unite Nigerians in the opposition. Despite our friendship, politically we will continue to fight,” he said.
The former Foreign Affairs Minister was spotted last Friday laughing and chatting with President Tinubu during the wedding of former Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari’s son in Kaduna, an encounter that stirred reactions across the political space.
He explained that the exchange was merely personal. “I told him, ‘You look nice.’ He replied, ‘Sule, I love you because you are trustworthy.’ We laughed and left. That does not change the politics between us,” Dr Lamido said.
The PDP stalwart also received a visit from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar last week. He recalled their long history in the PDP before Atiku defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“Atiku and I formed the PDP. When he was Vice President, I was Foreign Affairs Minister. What is wrong if Nigerians come together to discuss the state of their country?” he asked.
Dr Lamido stressed that the PDP is working to resolve internal crises while maintaining consultations with both current and former members to strengthen opposition to the ruling APC.
“There is no doubt that we are constantly engaging, ensuring compromises where needed. What we are doing is not for ourselves but for the people,” he maintained.
He added that telling the President the truth is every Nigerian’s right. “Not just me – every Nigerian has a right to the President. If he is wrong, there’s nothing wrong in saying it,” he said.
