The Okwabani of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, Jude Obidi, who confirmed the incident said, “This morning (Monday), I got a call from the head of the vigilantes and chairman of land recovery that people came with a bulldozer to the bush and the moment the gang saw them, they fled.

“He said the hoodlums abandoned a bag containing guns, which I asked him to take to a police station. On their way to the station, the hoodlums reinforced and came in three vehicles and started shooting indiscriminately

“Another call I received from them was that the people shot Chukwuwike dead. The head of the vigilantes, Nnamdi Nwaebonnor, and many others were injured.”

Obidi described the incident as a direct and unprovoked attack on his people.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the attack on the “Ogwa” and the killing of the vigilante member, saying that investigation into the matter had commenced.
