In a statement released by Mrs Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, the university Senate announced that the 2024/2025 second semester examinations initially slated to begin Monday, August 4, have been suspended indefinitely.
The decision was reached during a virtual emergency meeting of the Senate held on Saturday, August 2, in response to the strike declared by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of university staff unions, which includes ASUU-LASU, NASU-LASU, SSANU-LASU, and NAAT-LASU.
According to the Senate, the ongoing industrial action is not targeted at the university itself, but at the Lagos State Government. “The core demands of the Joint Action Committee are directed at the Lagos State Government,” the Vice-Chancellor, who also chairs the Senate, stated during the meeting.
The Senate disclosed that the university management had made significant efforts to resolve the impasse, including facilitating talks between the unions and state authorities. One such high-level meeting, chaired by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Olabode Agoro, was held on Friday, August 1, with representatives of the unions, university management, and relevant ministries present. The parties agreed to reconvene on Thursday, August 7, for further consultation.

Pending the outcome of these negotiations, the Senate has resolved to suspend all activities. “All socio-academic activities in the university are on hold until further notice,” the statement said.
As part of the emergency measures, LASU has ordered all students residing in the Ojo, LASUCOM, Epe, and Badagry campus hostels to vacate their accommodations by 6:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025.
Students and other members of the university community have been urged to remain calm and law-abiding. The statement concluded with the institution’s motto: “We are LASU, we are great!”
