  • Super Eagles slipped to 44th in the Latest FIFA World Rankings, now fifth in Africa.

  • Recent results didn’t lift their ranking under FIFA’s point system.

  • They face Rwanda and South Africa next, still holding Africa’s record 5th from 1994.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have fallen to 44th in the Latest FIFA World Rankings, sliding down one spot in Thursday’s FIFA update.

They now sit fifth in Africa, trailing Morocco (12th), Senegal (18th), Egypt (34th) and Algeria (36th).

Even after lifting the 2025 Unity Cup trophy in London and holding Russia to a 1–1 draw in Moscow, the Super Eagles didn’t climb the Latest FIFA World Rankings.

The rankings’ points formula—rewarding wins, opponent quality and match importance simply didn’t swing in Nigeria’s favor.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles slipped to 44th in the Latest FIFA World Rankings, now fifth in Africa.

Meanwhile, matchday 7 will see Super Eagles go head-to-head with 127th-placed Rwanda on of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, before traveling to clash against South Africa (56th).

Nigeria still holds the highest ranking any African side has ever reached—fifth place, set in April 1994.

That year, they debuted at the U.S. World Cup and advanced to the Round of 16 from a group that included Argentina, Bulgaria and Greece.

In Europe, Croatia re-entered the top 10 at Italy’s expense; Portugal and the Netherlands swapped sixth and seventh.

Belgium remains eighth, Germany ninth. World champions Argentina lead the rankings, followed by Spain, France, England and Brazil.

FIFA publishes its next men’s rankings on 18 September 2025.
