  • Rep. Abdussamad Dasuki has called on the Federal Government to allocate 753 forfeited duplexes in Abuja to the military to address their housing needs.

  • •The estate, worth millions, was forfeited to the government after being linked to corruption involving former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele.

A lawmaker representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, has called on the Federal Government to allocate a massive Abuja estate comprising 753 duplexes and apartments to the military.

The estate, which spans 150,500 square meters, was forfeited to the government after being linked to corruption involving former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently handed over the estate to the Ministry of Housing, which plans to offer the units for sale to the public and for special government needs.

However, Dasuki believes that allocating the estate to the military would be a more worthy use of the property. “We must ensure that those who keep us safe and their families have a decent place to lay their heads every night,” Dasuki said.

Dasuki emphasised that adequate housing is a critical need for the military, and that lack of it can lead to stress, low morale, and physical and emotional strain that can undermine their capacity to carry out their duties effectively.

He urged the National Assembly leadership to urgently open discussions with the executive on the need to allocate the forfeited housing units to the military.

“By prioritizing the welfare of the Armed Forces and their families, national security will be strengthened, operational readiness and effectiveness of the military will be enhanced, and our commitment to the wellbeing of those who keep us safe will be indubitable,” Dasuki said.
