The House of Representatives has sat over the bills proposed by lawmakers.
Some bills passed through the second reading, while others didn’t.
In the ongoing Constitutional Amendment proposals, the House of Representatives has about one hundred and thirteen (113) bills that have passed the second reading in the House.
Daily Report Nigeria has gathered the top twenty(20) bills that you need to know.
Notable among them is the bill to create the office of the Prime Minister. This bill is among the 32 bills that passed second reading in the House of Representative on Thursday. It states, “A Bill for An Act to alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to provide for the Office of Prime Minister as Head of Government and the Office of the President as Head of State and to provide for a framework the the mode of election to the said offices and for Related Matters (HB. 1115).”
Also, a bill that proposed a degree certificate as a minimum requirement for the office of the local government Chairman. This bill was proposed by Benjamin Kalu, the deputy speaker of the house. It emphatically says that “a democratically elected chairman and a vice-chairman, who shall be qualified for election if he is an indigene of the local government; has attained the age of 25 years; and has been educated up to at least the first degree certificate or its equivalent.”

Another bill is a bill for an Act to alter the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, to provide for specific seats for women in the National Assembly and state houses of assembly.
There is also a bill for an Act to alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, to review the requirements that qualifies persons to be an indigene of a place after 10 years of residence and some properties have been acquired by the person.
Also is the bill for an Act to alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, to reduce the period for determination of pre-election petition matters and provide for the establishment of pre-election tribunals for pre-election matters and regulate the process of suspending a member of the National Assembly from legislative duties.
Also, a bill for an Act to alter the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, to review the status of the Federal Capital Territory as regards the election of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and bills for the creation of Wan State and Gobir State.
Furthermore is a bill for an Act to alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, to review the requirements that qualifies persons to be elected as President and Vice-President, governors and deputy governors.
Also, the Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution to provide for special seats for the physically challenged persons in Nigeria’s Federal, State and Local Government Areas and Legislative Houses and for related matters. This bill was sponsored by Tajudeen Abbas and Marcus Onobun.

Also, a Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution to confer jurisdiction on the Federal High Court to try offences arising from violations of the Electoral Act and any other Related Act of the National Assembly.
There is also a Bill for an Act to alter sections 68(1) (g) &109(1)(g) of the Constitution to require the official resignation from a political party before defection by members of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly and for related matters.
Also, a Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution to provide for transition of substantive heads of Courts in Nigeria and to strengthen the procedure for removal of judicial officers in order to guaranteed the independence of the judiciary; and for related matters.
Also, there is a Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution to establish and empower the Political Parties Registration and Regulatory Commission to register, regulate and monitor the organisation and operation of political parties, and for related matters.
Also, a Bill an Act to Alter the Constitution to permit public servants to engage in healthcare education, production and services beyond farming and for related matters.
Also, a Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution to provide for six special seats for special interest groups in the House of Representatives and for related matters.
Also, a Bill for an Act to alter the Constitution to ensure gender equality in the composition of the Federal Character Commission and for related matters.
