Stanley Alieke, a legal practitioner and former lawyer to singer Speed Darlington, has spoken out against the death sentence handed to Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of the late gospel artist Osinachi Nwachukwu.
Earlier, it was reported that Nwachukwu was sentenced to death by hanging following his conviction in connection with the 2022 death of Osinachi, which stemmed from injuries linked to domestic violence.
Reacting to the ruling, Alieke argued that capital punishment should be abolished in such cases, suggesting life imprisonment as a more humane alternative.

He stressed the emotional toll the execution could have on the couple’s children, who have already suffered the loss of their mother.
“In as much as I’m a strong advocate for the guilty not to go unpunished; this singer Osinachi case should be a reason why de@th sentence should be abolished,” Alieke wrote on Instagram. “For the sake of their kids, they already lost their mom, it will be brutal for the kids for their dad to be k!lled too.”
Acknowledging public opinion, Alieke noted that some people might argue the children would be better off without a father guilty of such a crime. However, he maintained that the children might feel differently.
“I know some of you will argue that the kids are better off as orphans than to have a kila dad, but I believe that the kids will beg to differ. The man should be sentenced to life imprisonment so the kids could visit him in jail whenever they miss him. He’s still their father, let him not d!e too,” he added.
Alieke’s stance has sparked conversations online about the place of the death penalty in domestic violence cases and the long-term impact such rulings can have on the children left behind.
