Leicester City has received a significant boost after it was confirmed that they will not face a points deduction for allegedly breaching financial regulations. The club had been charged with violating the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) related to the 2022-23 financial year, during which they were relegated to the Championship.

The Premier League had claimed that Leicester’s accounts showed they had exceeded the allowed £105 million loss threshold and referred the case to an independent commission. Leicester initially appealed against the commission’s authority to hear the case, but this appeal was dismissed.

However, the club’s subsequent appeal against the ruling was successful. An independent appeal board determined that the period under review ended after the season concluded, meaning Leicester was no longer part of the Premier League at that time.

The commission stated, “It is practically impossible to pinpoint the exact moment when Leicester City allegedly exceeded the cumulative adjusted loss threshold of £105 million, as the PSR calculation is determined over a three-year period, up to and including the end of a club’s financial year for the Accounting Reference Period in which the PSR Calculation is made.”
