A 2-year-old girl identified simply as Donia has had her left hand amputated After her family’s visit to a zoo in Ibb governorate in Yemen

The media report stated that her hand was amputated because she was bitten by a lion.

According to Al-Arabiya Al Hadath, the toddler while playing and posing for pictures stretched her hand into the lion’s cage when the animal bit it off.

She was accompanied by her father who was busy taking pictures of her next to the lion.

Both the girl and her father went into a coma following the incident and were immediately rushed to the hospital.

Human rights advocates held the child’s father and the administration of the zoo, which is under the control of the Al Houthi militia, accountable for the tragedy.

They also decried the administration’s disregard for visitors by placing iron nets, which are inappropriate for these predators, or failing to ensure a sufficient safety distance that prevent visitors and children from getting closer to these animals.
