Inter Miami star Lionel Messi has been left out of Argentina’s squad for the 2024 Olympics. Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez also didn’t make the cut, while Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez will be heading to Paris.
Lionel Messi, who won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2008, has been excused from international duty to manage his workload. The 37-year-old is currently competing in the Copa America in the United States, where Argentina has reached the quarter-finals.
In Messi’s absence, Javier Mascherano has called up goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, Nicolas Otamendi, and Julian Alvarez as the overage picks for the summer games.

Chelsea refused to let Fernandez travel to France, so the midfielder will join Enzo Maresca and the rest of his teammates for preseason.
